Obituary: Rock Valley, IA – Wilmer "Willie" Van Beek, 58, died suddenly from an apparent heart attack on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at Hegg Memorial Hospital, Rock Valley. Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m., Friday at Faith Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley. Visitation will be Thursday at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley until 4 p.m. and continue with the family present from 6 – 8 p.m. at Faith Reformed Church.
Wilmer Gene Van Beek was born on December 23, 1948 to Mease and Wilma (Van Ginkel) Van Beek in LeMars, IA. Willie grew up in Rock Valley, graduating from Rock Valley High School in 1967. He attended the University of South Dakota where he earned degrees in math and computer science. Willie was united in marriage to Della Namminga on September 11, 1971 in Springfield, SD. Willie began farming with his father and later also operated Rock Valley Commodities. He served 11 years on the Rock Valley School Board and was the current President of the Rock Valley Golf Course Board. Willie was an avid sports fan and enjoyed golfing.
Willie is survived by his wife, Della; mother, Wilma Van Beek of Rock Valley; sons: Daron (Sherri) Van Beek of Sioux Falls, SD and Mark Van Beek and his fiancée Julie De Jong of West Des Moines, IA; grandsons: Carson and Brendon Van Beek; brother, Greg Van Beek of Rock Valley; sisters: Carol (Dennis) Feekes of Rock Valley and Mary (Tim) Wyatt of Shorewood, MN; tlinenieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mease Van Beek.
