Obituary: HAWARDEN, IOWA- Johanna Kool, 77, of Hawarden, passed away Monday, August 27, 2007 after a brief hospital stay.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden with Rev. Orville Kool officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at
Ireton. Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday, with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. followed by visitation with the family until 8:30 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Johanna Kool was born September 9, 1929 in Hawarden, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Dreka (Vande Hoef) Kool. She was baptized at the Christian Reformed Church. Johanna graduated from Hawarden High School in 1947 and began a teaching career that lasted almost 50 years. She received her Masters Degree from Wayne State College. Johanna began teaching in rural Iowa school houses, taught at Wayne State College, University of Wisconsin, and to other teaching positions around the world including Alaska, Turkey, Ethiopia, and Cuba, as well as travels to countries around the globe.
Johanna enjoyed working in her garden during her retirement years and sharing the bounty of her exceptional skills with family and friends.
She is survived by her sister, Rena Holtrop and her husband Fred of Ireton, Iowa; brother, Marvin Kool and his wife Patt of Huron, South Dakota; sister-in-law, Helen Kool of Hawarden; and 12 nieces and nephews.
Johanna was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Adrian Kool.
Jo Kool will be warmly remembered and sadly missed by her family and friends.
