ALFRED B. BOLKS
Mr. Alfred Bolks, age 86, of Sioux Center, formerly of Hull, passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2007, at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon.
There will be a funeral service on Wednesday, October 3, at 2:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull. The Rev. Steven Bierly will officiate. Interment will follow at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation with the family will be the hour before the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Alfred Bernard was born on July 19, 1921, in rural Hull, the son of John Bliss and Ruth Mae (Weaver) Bolks. He was raised at Perkins, where he attended a country school.
For many years, he farmed at Perkins with his parents. Later, he cared for the acreage there.
In 1993, Mr. Bolks moved to the New Homestead in Sioux Center. Except for a short time at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, he has since lived in Sioux Center. On September 12, of this year, he transferred to Sanford Senior Care.
He was a member of the American Reformed Church in Hull. He enjoyed gardening and raising dogs and goats.
Survivors include a sister, LaVonne Kroese, of Sheldon; a sister-in-law, Augusta Bolks, of Hull; a brother-in-law, Henry Kooiker, of Bellflower, California; and many devoted nephews and nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces, and great-great-nephews and great-great-nieces.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters, Hazel De Boer, Harold Bolks, Lloyd Bolks, Mildred Bolks, Ruth Bolks, Esther Kooiker, Irma Derr, and Viola Geurkink.
