Obituary: With the family he loved by his side, Wally was welcomed to his eternal home in heaven Saturday, September 1, 2007, at North Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, September 5, at 10:30 a.m. at the Inwood Christian Reformed Church. A committal service will be held at Richland Cemetery prior to the service. Friends and family are welcomed to attend and should meet at 9:00 a.m. at the church to proceed to the cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 4, beginning at noon, with the family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the church. Wally was born on December 7, 1930, to Andrew and Grace (Pals) Caswell in Hull, Iowa. He attended school at Hull Christian Grade School and graduated from Western Christian High School in 1948. He married Joan Cannegieter on December 7, 1951. They lived in Hull until 1961 where he did custom baling and worked for B&L Plumbing. In 1960 they moved to Inwood, Iowa where he began his own plumbing business, Caswell Plumbing and Heating. Although he sold the business to his two sons-in-law, Mark Faber and Wendall Kooi, in 2006, he maintained the presidential suite (his front office).

His life is a legacy of serving others. He was a committed citizen of Inwood and served the community through Kiwanis, Commercial Club, city council, 9 years of mayor and the fire department. He was instrumental in building the Inwood Community Center, swimming pool and Fellowship Village. He was also a faithful member of Inwood Christian Reformed Church where he served on the church council, as a Cadet leader and Sunday School teacher. He enjoyed singing in the church choir. He loved his church family. He was a firm believer and supporter of Christian education and served on the local Christian School board. His passion was serving others through outreach ministries. He traveled with volunteer teams to Romania, Mexico and Mississippi. He volunteered locally as well and was known for his open door, caring spirit and wisdom. He spent time serving on the boards of Midwest Evangelism League, Harmony Youth Home, Alpha Center, Justice for All and was currently serving as president of Cornerstone Prison Ministries Board. He very much enjoyed volunteering at Metal Craft Industries at the South Dakota State Prison.

Grateful for the blessing and privilege of sharing his life are his wife of 55 years, Joan; three daughters, Pat (Warren) Vander Pol, Rock Valley, Sandy (Wendall) Kooi, Inwood, Tammy (Mark) Faber, Rock Valley and one son, Jeff (Shonna) Caswell, Norwood, Minnesota; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Amy (Dave) VanBelle and their children, Reagan, Aaron and Karina, Lance (Sarah) VanderPol and their children, Sydney and Megan, Brian VanderPol, Kelly VanderPol, Katie (Doug) Basler, Coby Faber, Marques Faber, Caleb Faber, Kyle TeSlaa and Kody TeSlaa; two sisters, Marge Visser, Orange City, Irene (John C) Groeneweg, Hull, one brother, George (Marilyn) Caswell, Inwood; brothers- and sisters-in-law; "adopted" daughters, Marlene Hardy and Lynn Phillips of Jackson, Mississippi.
Wally was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lenora (Cornie) Davelaar.
