Mary Gail [Vant Hul] Van Es of Sioux Center, Iowa, went to be with her Savior on October 28, 2004 in the Sioux Center Community Hospital Nursing Home. She was born January 5, 1950, in Orange City to Bill and Mildred Vant Hul. She spent her formative years in Alton and graduated from Floyd Valley High School with the class of 1968. Mary was married to Jerry Van Es on July 5, 1969. She attended Northwestern College and graduated in 1971 with degrees in History
and Education. The couple resided in several communities, including Iowa City, Sioux Falls, Le Mars, Wichita, and Orange City. In 1987 the family relocated to Sioux Center. Mary touched many lives in each place, and maintained lasting friendships. One of Mary's greatest roles was that of mother. Nicolas Jon was born in 1974, and Joseph Michael followed in 1977. Those closest to the family were privileged to witness the special and oftentimes humorous
relationships they shared. Mary always had a heart for children, and one of her greatest wishes was fulfilled when she became a grandma. In addition to time with her family, Mary had many interests. She was an accomplished cook, an avid reader, and an extraordinary hostess. She used her talents in many ways, including her work in personnel and public relations at the Sioux Center Community Hospital, owning The Cooking Connection, and through her passion for volunteering. Mary was also involved at Central Reformed Church, serving on the RCWM and teaching catechism and Sunday school.
Grateful for sharing her life are Jerry of Sioux Center, 1A; Nick, his wife Amy, and their son, Owen of LeMars, IA; Joe, his wife Heather, and their children, Ty and Elisabeth of Iowa City, IA; her parents Bill and Mildred Vant Hul of Alton, IA; her siblings: Virigina (Rod) Schuller of LeMars, IA; Kent (Wendy) Vant Hul of Cedar Grove, WI; Mark (Kathy) Vant Hul of Alton, IA; Lynne (Don) Dreesen of Slayton, MN; Jan (Dan) Plesher of Sioux City, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother Wayne.
