Also four brothers John De Gooyer of Sioux Center, William, Bert and Henry De Gooyer of Yakima, Wash., and a sister Mrs. Gene Bicknell of Seattle, Wash. Mrs. Beernink, nee Kate De Gooyer was born on a farm near Alton, on March 19, 1885. On March 10, 1904, she was united in marriage to Mr. Reuben Beernink who now survives her with the two sons. Most of their married life was spent in Sioux Center with the exception of eight years which were spent in Yakima, Wash and 4 years which were spent at Holland, Mich. She was a member of the Central Reformed church and was very active in church work as long as her health permitted her to do so. The funeral will be held Saturday at the house at 1.30 and 2 P M from the Central Ref. Church, unless word received from William whom the Red Cross is trying to locate. He was last heard from in the region of the battle of Tarawa and was among the survivors picked up by an American L.S.T boat after the battle.
