ALBERT DETHMERS.
Albert Dethmers was born on January 16, 1881, and passed away on Saturday May 15, 1943 at the age of 62 years and 4 months following a heart attack. He came to Sioux City at the age of 7 years in 1888 from the Netherlands. In 1901 he moved with his parents to Leota, Minn, where he attended a rural school. On January 20, 1904 he was united in marriage to Anna Ver Hoef who survives him. Two sons and 2 daughters were born to them, Jack Dethmers of Garner, la., Robert of Boyden; Nancy, Mrs. John Kline, and Vera Dethmers at home. One son preceded him in death, Herman aged 14 in 1926; 9 grandchildren also survive. He is also survived by 3 brothers and 3 sisters, John Dethmers of Pipestone, Minn., R. P. Dethmers of Grand Rapids, Mich., Ike Dethmers of Hull, Annette Dethmers of Hull; Helen, Mrs. Richard Vande Berg of Pella; Effie, Mrs. Steve Vande Well of Rock Valley. He farmed near Leota and then moved to a farm near Boyden and in 1935 they moved to Boyden, where he was in the implement business with his son Robert. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the home and at 1:30 at the First Ref. church at Boyden with Rev. J. W. Brink in charge. Interment was made in the Boyden cemetery. Pallbearers were R. Kamminga, W. Beelsma (*or Boelsma?), Hubert Maris, Fred Reimers, Gerrit Kooiman, He served as elder and deacon in Leota and Boyden church for several years. He was also a member of the lumber yard and creamery boards and of the school board 13 years.
