Inwood - John C. deWit, 86, Inwood, died Friday, Jan. 9, at Fellowship Village in Inwood.

Services were Tuesday, Jan. 13, at Netherlands Reformed Church in Rock Valley, with the Rev. G. M. de Leeuw officiating. Burial was at Valley View cemetery in Rock Valley, under the direction of Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

John deWit, son of Bastiaan & Marigje (Van Den Torn-Hoogendoorn) deWit, was born May 7, 1917 in Alvord. He attended grade school in Steen, MN.

He married Jennie Van Ginkel on Sept. 15, 1941 in Dakota City, NE. They farmed south of Rock Rapids, until farming northwest of Inwood, beginning in 1949. They retired in 1981 and moved to Country Club Estates in Sioux Falls, SD, and spent summers at Hiawatha Beach Resort in Walker, MN. They moved to The Inn on Westport of Sioux Falls in 1996. Mrs. deWit died Aug. 4, 1997. He moved to Fellowship Village in Inwood on June 14, 1999.

Survivors include five sons, Arthur B., and Kay deWit of Sioux Falls, SD; John & Michele deWit of Sioux Falls, SD; August & Alma deWit of Rock Rapids; Norman & Darla deWit of Garretson, SD, and Damon & Karen deWit of Sioux Falls, SD; five daughters, Gladys & David Stubben of Dubuque; Margaret & Douglas Delker of Des Moines; Edna & Daniel Van Sweeden of Grand Rapids, MI; Ruth & Loren Groeneweg of Rock Valley, and Natalie & Kevin Spitzig, of Ankeny; 31 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nellie Berg of Rock Rapids, and Adrianna Van Beek of Rock Valley; and a sister-in-law Frederika Van Ginkel of Ontario, CA.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie deWit; a son, James deWit; a granddaughter, Angela Van Sweden; a grandaughter-in-law, Shari deWit; a great-grandson, Jordan Leonard; a sister, Margaret Iwen and nine Hoogendoorn half-brothers.
