MRS. SIMON MENNING.
Mrs. Simon Menning, nee Dena Te Grotenhuis, was born on a farm 2½ miles north of Newkirk on September 29, 1890, and passed away at her home on November 6, 1941 at the age of 51 years, 1 month and 7 days. On Feb. 7, 1912 she was united in marriage to Simon Menning. To this union nine children were born, all of whom survive with her husband: Esther, Mrs. Ed Boone, Sheldon; Evelyn, Mrs. Sam Brink, Hospers; and Harold, Marion, Virgil, Eunice, Norman, Sylvia and Arlene at home. Also her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. J. Te Grotenhuis of Orange City; 3 brothers, James of Orange City and Benjamin and Reuben from Newkirk. One brother preceded her in death in infancy. She was a faithful member of the Newkirk Reformed church. Funeral services were held in the Newkirk Reformed church at 1:15 on Monday, Nov. 10 with Revs. Z. Roetman and Geerlings from the Christian Ref. church of Hospers officiating. “There is a Home Eternal" and “Anywhere with Jesus" were sung by a mixed quartette: Mrs. John Lyftogt, Mrs. Ed Roetman, John De Haan and Arthur De Graaf. Pallbearers were members of Simon Menning’s Young Married Sunday school class: William Van Rooyen, John C. Blom, Edwin Roetman, Frank De Graaf, Roy Vos and Arie Bomgaars. Interment was in the Newkirk cemetery. Those who attended the funeral from away were: Rev. Mr. Gerrit Menning from Pella, John Menning, sr., Alfred Menning, Mr. and Mrs. Simon Menning, Mr. and Mrs. John Menning, Mrs. Jake Achterhof, Mrs. Art Menning and daughter Mrs. Oliver, Mr. and Mrs. Lou Halbersma, Mr. and Mrs. M. Halbersma, all from Edgerton, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Ed Shimp of Corsica, S.D., Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Kamphoff of Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Kots and Mr. and Mrs. Dick Schuller from Maurice, Mr. and Mrs. John De Vries of Hollandale, Minn.
