BEN KOTS, MAURICE, PIONEER, PASSES ON.
Ben Kots, a residence of the Maurice Community for the past 57 years, passed away at his home, early Sunday morning, at the age of 80 years, 7 months and 15 days, following a general failing health, which has developed during the past several weeks, causing him to bed ridden for nearly six months.
Ben Kots was bom in Aalten, Gelderland, Netherlands, September 13, 1860, coming to America in 1883 at the age of 23 years, and locating near Maurice where has lived continuously sincc that time. He has always been a member of the First Reformed Church and was a deacon in the consistory for 30 years. He was loyal and generous to his church and was an honest and trustworthy member of the community. He was united in marriage with Ella Kramer in September 1892, and to this union six children were born, five living, with one infant preceding in death. Besides his widow he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lou Halbersma of Woodstock, Minn., and Mrs. Martin Halbersma of Leota, Minn., and three sons, Gerrit, Henry and John, all of Maurice. He leaves 39 (*or 30?) grandchildren, one great grandchild, and four sisters: Mrs. Gerrit Grotenbuis, Mrs. Gerrit Fikse, and Mrs. Arie Punt of Orange City, and Mrs. Dick Schuller of Maurice. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock from the home, and at 1:30 from the First Reformed Church, with Rev. J. A.
Roggen officiating, and interment was made at the Sherman township cemetery
