Funeral services for Mrs. Joseph De Wit were held last week Monday afternoon at 12:45 at the home and at 1:30 o'clock in the First Christian Reformed Church at Rock Valley with Rev. Christian Huissen officiating. Vander Ploeg's Funeral Service of Sheldon was in charge. Burial was made in Valley View Cemetery.

Mrs. De Wit, nee Annette Kooima, was born on a farm south of Rock Valley May 14, 1903, and was brought up in that vicinity. She was married to Joseph De Wit, Jan. 7, 1926. To this union three children were born, all of whom survive. Mrs. De Wit was killed in the automobile accident northwest of town on her 29th wedding anniversary.

Survivors besides her husband include the children: Florence, Mrs. William Ter Maat; John and Mildred, Mrs. Herman Dirksen, Jr, all of Rock Valley; her mother, Mrs. Jake Kooima of Rock Valley, and eight brothers and sisters: Jesse, Mrs. John Meendering of Hull; Sam J. Kooima, Anna, Mrs. Robert Jacobsma; Tony and Charles all of Rock Valley, Rose, Mrs. John Deckers of Hawarden and Gerrit and Ted of Rock Valley. She was preceded in death by her father, a brother and a sister.

Pall bearers were Reuben De Groot, John Kempema, John Dirksen, Tom Gallswyk, Bert Driesen and Gerald Vos.

A Rock Valley woman was killed and two other persons were injured in a two car collision Thursday afternoon at an intersection on a graveled road six miles northeast of Rock Valley.

The victim was Mrs. Joseph DeWit, 51, who was riding in a car driven by her husband, Joseph, also 51. The driver of the other car was Mrs. T. V. Rogers, also from near Rock Valley. She was taken to a Canton, SD hospital suffering from undetermined injuries.

Mr. DeWit suffered a fracture of the shoulder and was termed in "fairly good" condition at the Sioux Center, IA. hospital.

Coroner Haarold Jongewaard said Mrs. DeWit was killed almost instantly. The body was taken to the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home at Sheldon, Iowa.

Highway Patrolmen George Dunn of Sheldon, and Craig Vinson of Rock Rapids, and Sheriff Fred Tonne of Lyon County investigated the crash.

Mr. & Mrs. DeWit would have observed their 35th wedding anniversary Friday.

NOTE: Last name could be spelled DeWitt, and the anniversary date is not the same on both articles.
