George Vink
HULL, Iowa - George Vink, 87, of Hull died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley, Iowa. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at American Reformed Church in Hull, with the Rev. Verlyn Boone officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.
Mr. Vink was born July 13, 1913, in Marion, N.D., the son of Garret and Anna (Te Brink) Vink.
He was raised in North Dakota and moved with his family to Iowa as a young adult.
He married Wilma Pollema on Jan. 27,1937, in Hull. The couple farmed northwest of Hull and later west of Hull. In 1974, they retired and moved into Hull. Following his retirement, he continued to farm. They entered The Homestead in Hull in 1996. He was a member of First Reformed Church in Hull, where he participated in Men's Brotherhood. He enjoyed word puzzles, farm sales, baseball and boxing. He was a volunteer psalm singer at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters and their husbands, Geneva and Melvin Van Peursem of Orange City, Iowa, Wanda and Ivan Van Der Schaaf of Tenaha, Texas, and Dorothy and John Van Zyl of Lansing, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Ila Wheeler, Darla Burgett, Gaylene Christensen, Wynae Hinton, David Van Zyl, Dan Van Peursem, Wanita Shofner, Randy Van Peursem and Iletha Fountain; 21 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Albeit of Rock Valley and Henry of Colton, S.D.; and four sisters, Alice Norman of Mora, Minn., Marion Ver Berg of Rock Valley, Anna Scholten of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Bernice Reuvers of Marshall, Minn.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Delmar; and a sister, Nettie Van Leeuwen.
