Allen Vander Feen
HAWARDEN, Iowa — Allen Vander Feen, 88, of Hawarden died Monday, Sept. 4, 1995, at his residence. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Hawarden with the Rev. Dean Shelly officiating. Burial will be in Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden.
Visitation will begin at noon today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Mr. Vander Feen was born Sept. 14, 1906, in Friesland, The Netherlands, the son of Arie and
Sophia Vander Feen. He came to the United States with his family at the age of 3 and attended rural school in Sioux County. He farmed with his father and brother, Frank prior to his
marriage to Rena Vander Mei Aug. 7,1929, at Ireton. The couple farmed near Ireton and Hawarden until retiring to an acreage south of Hawarden in 1968. They moved into town in 1988. Mr. Vander Feen was a member of United Methodist Church. He was an avid fisherman and gardener and played baseball in his earlier years.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Wayne and his wife, Oina of Ireton; two daughters, Shirley Busch of Hawarden and Beverly Peterson and her husband, Dave of Estherville; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Frank; two sisters, Marie Appelhof and Gertrude Taylor and a great-granddaughter.
