Paul Henkels Dies at Alton
FATHER OF HAWARDBN CITIZEN DIED LAST FRIDAY
Was 69 Years pf Age and a Pioneer Resident of Alton. Leaves Widow and Six Children -
Paul Henkels, aged 69, father of Wm. P. Henkels of Hawarden, died at Tiis home at Alton about 8:30 last Friday morning following a very brief illness. He was taken sick on Tuesday night of last week with what was considered a milk attack of grippe.

His condition was in no way alarming and it was not deemed even, necessary to notify his children of his illness.

Early Friday morning, however, he suddenly lapsed into unconsciousness . His son here was immediately notified and he droves at once to Alton, arriving there a couple of hours before Mr. Henkels passed away. It was then ascertained that he had suffered a stroke of apoplexy.

Funeral services were held at St. 'Mary's Catholic church at Alton Tuesday morning, conducted by Rev. Fr. Brune, and interment was made in the cemetery at Alton.

Paul Henkels was a pioneer resident of Alton, having resided there since 1881,, about the time; the town was first laid out. He was engaged in the general merchandise business until 1897 and following that was a grain buyer at Alton until 1908, since which "time he has been employed at various occupations. He had served as assessor at Alton for a number of years; and still held this position at the time of his death. He was .widely known and highly regarded throughout Sioux county.

He had visited in Hawarden on numerous occasions and had a number of friends here who learned with sincere regret of his death and all join in extending sincere sympathy to the member of his famiy Besides his widow he is survived by three sons. and three daughters, Wm. P. Henkels •of- Hawarden, Ted Henkels of Olympia, Wash;, Mrs. Leo Keough of Maurice, Dr. Abbie Henkels and Miss Rita Henkels of Washington, D. C., and Leo Henkels of Movilie, Iowa.
