Barney Heubrock Meets Sad Fate Near Winner, S. D.

Barney Heubrock, a former resident of this city, was burned to death near Winttet, S. D., last Friday night Just how the sad accident happened is still unknown. He had been working at his trade as a carpenter and builder in erecting some farm buildings about thirteen miles from Winner and was sleeping in the loft of the barn. His assistant had gone to Winner to attend a show and Mr; Heubrock remained on the premises alone.

Some time during the fore part of the night the barn took fire and burned to the ground. Neighbors a few miles distant saw the flames and drove to the scene but arrived too late to save anything.

The burned and blackened body was removed, from the ashes as soon as it was possible to do so. How the building caught fire and why he failed to escape from the barn after the flames had started will probably always remain a mystery.

The remains were brought to Hawarden yesterday for interment and were accompanied from Winner by the heart broken wife and children. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church at 2 p. m., Rev.V. A. Weir preaching the funeral sermon.

Antone Barney Heubrock was born in Mendota, IL., Nov. 22,1876. The family moved to Hawarden in 1889. He was united in marriage May 5, 1903, with Miss Anna May Akin. Three children were born to them, who with his wife, his father, B. J. Heubrock of Chatsworth, his brother Frank of Hawarden and sister .Katie of Glen wood, Iowa, are left to mourn his death.

About a year and a half ago the family removed from this city to Winner, S. D., where he was engaged at his trade as a contractor and builder. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America, Knights of Pythias and Pythian Sisters organizations and carried a life insurance policy for $3,000 in the Woodmen.

He united with the Presbyterian church of this city in September, 1902, and still retained his membership in the church at the time of his death. He had a large circle of friends here who extend sincere sympathy to the bereaved family.
