Hawarden Independent January 25, 1996

Cora Ver Hoef, age 89, of Rock Valley, died Sunday, January 21, 1996 at the Valley Manor at Rock Valley. Funeral Service was at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Reformed Church at Rock Valley. Rev. Harlan DeJong officiating. Burial was at the Valley View Cemetery at Rock Valley. Visitation was Tuesday with the family present from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

Cora was born September 7, 1906 at S'Gravenzande, the Netherlands. She was the daughter of Jan and
Maaike (Vlasblom) Van Der Hout. She immigrated to the U.S.A. to the Boyden, area with her parents and sister, Lena, in 1914. She attended elementary school and later worked in a grocery store at Boyden. Cora married Samuel Edward Ver Hoef on April 13, 1934 at Boyden. Together they lived a short time at Sioux Center, before moving to Rock Valley, where they were very active in the First Reformed Church. Samuel died November 21,1977.

Surviving relatives include one son and his wife, Lyle and Myrna Ver Hoef of Hawarden; one daughter,
Donna Jacobsen of Las Vegas, NV.; four grandchildren, Rachel Ver Hoef of Iowa City, Joel and his wife, Lynda Ver Hoef of Aubrey, TX., Dana and her husband Jeff Randall of Sioux Falls, SD., Dan and his wife, Joy Jacobsen of Fort Collins, CO.; four great-grandchildren; two step-greatgrandchildren.

Cora Ver Hoef, 89, of Rock Valley died Sunday, January 21, at Valley Manor of Rock Valley.

Services were at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 24, at First Reformed Church in Rock Valley with the Rev. Harlan De Jong officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery.

Mrs. Ver Hoef was born September 7, 1906 at S'Gravenzande, The Netherlands, the daughter of Jan & Maaike (Vlasblom) Van Der Hout. She came to the United States and to the Boyden area with her parents and sister, Lena, in 1914. She attended elementary school and later worked in a grocery store in Boyden. She married Samuel Edward Ver Hoef, April 13, 1934 in Boyden. The couple lived a short time at Sioux Center before moving to Rock Valley. He died November 21, 1977.

She was an active member of First Reformed Church, Rock Valley.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Lyle & Myrna Ver Hoef of Hawarden; a daughter, Donna Jacobsen of Las Vegas, Nevada; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.
