Urban Holles
Urban Holles, 79, of Granville died Tuesday, June 29, 1993 at Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon after a brief illness.
Services were held at 10:30 Thursday, July 7 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Granville. The Rev. Clem Currans officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery under direction of the Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen.
Mr. Holles was born Dec. 3,1913 in rural Granville, the son of Frank and Emma (Rieth) Holles. He was raised in the Granville area and attended St. Joseph's School. He then was a farm laborer and worked at Holles Hatchery in Granville. On June 20,1938, he married Helen Kreber in Granville. The couple farmed west of Granville and in 1946 purchased and moved to the family farm where he was born. They retired on the farm in 1975. They operated the Granville Shopper from 1959-75. They moved into Granville in December 1983.
Mrs. Holies died Dec. 29,1990. He had been a resident of Oak Park Care Center
in Sheldon since Jan. 3,1991. Mr. Holles was active in parish and civic affairs. In 1991 he served as Ombudsman between Oak Park Care Center and its residence and in that capacity he attended a Conference on Aging in Des Moines. He was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus of Granville.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Gerry and Sandy of Fridley, Minn., and Dennis and Joyce of Dell Rapids, S.D.; two daughters, Jean and her husband, David Clark of Estherville and Julie Holles of Minneapolis; six grandchildren; one brother, Art and his wife, Mary of Sioux City; and a sister, Mrs. John (Isabel) Friedrich of Madison, S.D.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Roman, Sylvester and Marvin in childhood and Mathew; and three sisters, Frances and Caroline in childhood and Mrs. John (Bernadette) Klein
