Mrs. Wm. Vogelaar died very suddenly at 11:30 last night, of apoplexy, at her home a mile east of Orange City, at the age of fifty-five years.
Mr. and Mrs. Vogelaar retired last evening at the usual hour, and apparently, Mrs. Vogelaar was in her usual health, which has always been good. She had not complained during the day and went about her household duties as cheerfully as ever. At about the hour mentioned above Mr. Vogelaar was awakened from sleep by the heavy breathing of his wife and upon asking her if anything was the matter received no reply. He raised her up in bed and discovered that she was
in an unconscious condition and after taking a few difficult breaths she passed away while he held her in his arms.
Deceased came to this county in 1876 with her first husband, Dirk Slerrenherg, from Pella, Iowa, and settled on the A. J. Betten farm near Orange City where they resided up to eleven years ago when her husband received injuries in a runaway from which he died, leaving his wife and four sons to mourn his untimely death. Three of these sons survive their mother, John, residing in this city, and William and Antonie living at Edgerton, Minn. Walter, the eldest son, died two years ago. A few years after the death of her first husband she was united in
marriage to Wm. Vogelaar and they have since resided at their present home.
The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon from the First Reformed church, of which congregation deceased has long been a devoted member. The Rev. Stefferts will conduct the services and the remains will be laid to rest in the Orange City cemetery. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of all in their sad affliction.
