A. J. Whitney, an old resident of the North side; died very suddenly about 11 o'clock Tuesday
evening from heart failure. He had been complaining some during the afternoon and the family physician had been summoned, but no immediate alarm was felt. A short time before he passed away he suddenly grew worse and expired before medical aid reached him. Mr. Whitney was born in the state of Vermont in 1828, and came to Sioux county in 1870. He settled on a homestead about a mile west of the present town of Ireton, where he remained until about fifteen yearsi ago when he retired from active duties and moved to the North side. He leaves a wife and two grown daughters, airs. T. H. (Isabell)Prior and Mrs. James H. Sherman, of Ireton, to mourn his loss. The funeral took place this afternoon from the Presbyterian church in this city, and the remains were then taken to Ireton for interment.
(Andrew J. Whitney was born 29 Jan 1828 Vermont and died 10 Oct 1899 Ireton Iowa. His wife was Rosina A., she died Feb 11, 1881 Ireton. In 1870 census they were living in Franklin Grove Lee Illinois They had two children Bella 18 and Carrie 1. Belle died 15 Feb 1880 Ireton and Carrie born 12 Mar 1856 died 28 Nov 1892 Ireton.)
