VELLINGA, VANKLOMPENBURG

Sioux County Capital, January 10, 1991

Edward R. Vellinga, 92, of Sheldon, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 1991 at the Sheldon hospital.

Burial was held Saturday, Jan. 5, at 11:30 a.m., at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City under direction of the Andringa Funeral Home of Sibley. Memorial services were at 1:30 p.m., Saturday at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon.

Mr. Vellinga was born Oct. 10, 1898 at Carnes. He lived his youth in Carnes and the Orange City area, where he attended a country school. He married Grace Van Klompenburg, May 28, 1919 at Carnes. They farmed near Carnes and the surrounding area until 1951 when they moved to Rock Rapids. They farmed there until 1963 when they retired and moved to Sheldon. Mrs. Vellinga died in 1967.

Mr. Vellinga was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Sheldon. He also served on the Christian School board in Rock Rapids for many years.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Alvin (Dorothy) Blom of San Antonio, TX, and Mrs. Andrew (Nelvina) Mouw of Sibley; a son and daughter-in-law, John & Mary Lou Vellinga of Bozeman, Mont; and daughter-in-law, Mrs. Clara Vellinga of Sheldon; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, John & Mary Vellinga of Sheldon; and a sister, Mrs. Jenny De Vries of Orange City.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ray; a daughter, Edna; two brothers and six sisters.
