Last Rites For Pioneer Resident Held Saturday

Funeral services for the late Geo. H. Frerichs, who died at his home in Preston township, Plymouth county on Wednesday evening of last week, May 28, were held last Saturday afternoon at the family home and the Christ church in Mammen, Rev J. D. Meyer, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial was made in Grant township cemetery.

The deceased was numbered among the early pioneers in this section of the country and engaged in farming in Sioux and Plymouth county for many years. He was held in the highest esteem in the the community and was regarded as a leader in agricultural and community affairs.

George H. Frerichs was born in Lee county, Illinois, March 9, 1863, where his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Folkert Frerichs, who came to America in 1862 from Germany, had settled.

The family migrated from Illinois to Iowa and located in Jones county, Iowa, and in 1872 came to Plymouth county with many others from that section of Iowa. The older Frerichs bought a hundred and twenty acres land in Preston township, section 23, and in the meantime rented a farm in section 14 where L. C. Oloff now lives.

George H. Frerichs received his education in the public school in Preston township and assisted in the work on the home farm and as a youth early assumed responsibility on account of the ill health of his father.

Following the death of his father he made a home for his mother. 1883 he was united in marriage Martha Zimmerman, a native of Montgomery county, Illinois, and rented land engaged in farming in Sioux county for a number of years and in 1892 came back to Plymouth county and bought a farm in section 25, Preston township.

Surviving him besides the widow, are three daughters, Mrs. G. J. Eilers, Hawarden, Mrs. Chas. Rembe, Le Mars, Mrs. Henry Luscher, Struble, three sons, Henry and Earnest, of Akron, and John, of Le Mars. He is also survived by two brothers, Jno. B. Frerichs, of Brunsville, and Herman Frerichs of Craig
