Nelson John was the son of John and Nellie (Meylink) Schreur. He was raised at Maurice, where he worked on farms. On April 28, 1947, he married Johanna Vis in rural Hull. They lived on
farms by Maurice and between Boyden and Hull. He also worked as a carpenter. They later moved into Boyden. where he was a butcher at Smit and Son. They then moved into Hull. In 1991. Mr. and Mrs. Schreur became residents of the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church, where he had served on the consistory as a deacon and participated in Men's Brotherhood. He also belonged to the Wegman-Koele American Legion Post in Hull.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Margene and Jay Stellinga, of Hull; and Debra and Steve Streff, of Alton; and seven grandchildren. Melissa. Mindy. and Brenda Stellinga; and Kari. Dana, Matthew, and Sara Streff.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Theodore; and three sisters. Gertrude De Jong, Susan Bolluyt, and Agnes Oftendahl.
