Boyden - George Diekevers, 82, of Boyden died Tuesday, June 8, 1999, at the Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon.

Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday at the United Presbyterian Church in Boyden with the Rev. John Goertz officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Township Cemetery, Boyden. Visitation will be after 2 p.m., Friday, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home, Boyden.

Mr. Diekevers was born Sept. 15, 1916, in Boyden, the son of Edward & Adrianna (Ver Hoef) Diekevers. He was raised at Boyden where he graduated from high school. On Dec. 8, 1941, he married Lucille Kwikkle at Dakota City, Neb. The couple made their home in Boyden where he was the owner of a trucking business. He entered the Army in 1942 and served in North Africa, Sicily and Italy during World War II. He was discharged in 1945 and returned to Boyden where he continued his trucking business until his retirement. He enjoyed collecting antique cars.

Mr. Diekevers was a member of the United Presbyterian Church where he recently donated a new Allen organ in memory of his wife. He served on the Boyden City Council from 1961 until 1976, and was elected again in 1980, serving at the time of his death. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Sheldon.

Survivors include three brothers, Walter of Boyden, Harold of Sheldon and Marvin of Hull; a sister, Thelma Kooiman of Edgerton, MN and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a sister, Carrie Ingalls; a brother, Adrian "Rusty"; a brother-in-law, Elmer Kooiman, and a sister-in-law, Bertha Diekevers.
