Hospers - Gerrit John Diekevers, 81, Hospers, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

Services will be 11 a.m., today (Saturday, Feb 8) at First Reformed Church in Hospers, with the Rev. Milton Sikkema officiating.

Burial will be prior to the service at Hospers Cemetery, under the direction of Oolman Funeral Home in Hospers.

Gerrit Diekevers, son of Neal & Jennis (Rensink) Diekevers, was born Jan. 9, 1922 in Boyden. He was raised in the Boyden-Hospers area. He married Julia Mae Prins on Dec. 13, 1946, in Sanborn. They made their home in Sanborn, where he worked at the creamery. They moved in 1951 to a farm near Hospers, where he enjoyed working with his dairy herd. The retired into Hospers in 1985. Mrs. Diekevers died April 26, 1987, in Sheldon.

He married Alice Nelvena VandeBerg Kuyper on March 19, 1993, in Inwood. They made their home in Hospers. He became a resident of Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull in January 2001.

He was a member of First Reformed Church in Hospers, where he participated in the Men's Brotherhood and attended Sunday School.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Diekevers of Inwood; five children, Gawaine & Diane Diekevers of Steen, MN; Jerry & Elaine Diekevers of Hospers, Janice & Earl Sneller of International Falls, MN; Grant & Linda Diekevers of Archer, and Kevin & Lisa Diekevers of Sanborn; six stepchildren; 18 grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and a brother, Ray Diekevers of Hospers.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Julia Diekevers; a son, Randy Diekevers; and a grandson, Ryan Wayne.

Memorials are being directed to the church for a new organ chimes.
