DEJONGH, VANSURKSUM, VREEMAN

Sioux Center News, April 12, 1994

Henry DeJongh, 88, of Hull died Monday, April 4, at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull. Funeral services were at First Reformed Church in Hull on Thursday, with the Rev. Gerald Vander Velde officiating. Burial was in Hope Cemetery in Hull.

DeJongh was born on November 5, 1905, in Hull, the son of Peter & Hendrika (Vreeman) DeJongh. On March 12, 1926 he married Nellie Van Surksum at Hull. The couple farmed near Hull most of their married life, moving to Hull in 1962. She died on December 20, 1986 at Hull.

DeJongh was a member of First Reformed Church, where he had served on the consistory as an elder and deacon. He also had served on the boards of directors of many community organizations.

Survivors include five daughters and their husbands, Marian & John Groeneweg; Verla and Harold Ten Haken, and Diane and Harlyn Kempema, all of Rock Valley; Henrietta and Art Boeve of Steen, MN, and Bev and Dave Wesselink of Marathon; a son and his wife, Vernon and Hester De Jongh of Hull; a son-in-law, Leonard Risseeuw of Larchwood; 22 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren, and a sister, Dena DeBoer of Bellflower, CA.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Norma Risseeuw, seven brothers and three sister.
