Had Been Teaching for Ten Years at Great Falls.--Body Brought Here Today for Interment

Miss Nettie Mattson passed away at Columbus hospital in Great Falls, Mont., at 11:20 Saturday night, July 16th. Miss Mattson had not been in her usual good health for the past few weeks but her condition was not considered as serious. She entered Columbus hospital ten days before her death for treatment and she planned to come to Hawarden after recuperating for a brief period. She took a sudden turn for the worse last Friday and Miss Anna Mattson was advised by a telegram Friday night of her condition. Miss Mattson left Saturday for Great Falls but she did not arrive there until Monday. She left Great Falls Tuesday morning and arrived here with the body early this morning. Miss Hilma Mattson, who is located at Shreveport, La., also started for Great Falls when she learned of the serious illness of her sister but when she reached Kansas City she received the message of her death and so she came to Hawarden, arriving here Monday afternoon. Miss Hilma Mattson went to Huron Wednesday afternoon and accompanied her sister home from there.

Funeral services will be held at the Mattson home in Hawarden at 2:30 Friday afternoon with Rev. B. L. Carlton, pastor of the Baptist church at Big Springs, in charge. Interment will be made in the family lot in Grace Hill cemetery.

Miss Nettie Mattson was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gust Mattson, pioneer settlers of Big Springs. She was born on her parents' farm, eight miles southwest of Hawarden, Dec. 27, 1889, and so was 37 years, 6 months and 19 days old at the time of her death. The early years of her life were spent on the old home farm. She attended the Hawarden high school, being a member of the graduating class of 1908, after which she attended the State Normal School at Madison, S.D., from which she also graduated. She also attended the University at Salt Lake, Utah. She then engaged in the profession of teaching in which she displayed exceptional talent. She taught at various places but for the past ten years she has been engaged in the public schools at Great Falls, Mont.

Early in life she united with the Baptist church at Big Springs and she remained a firm believer in that faith until her death. She was a member of the order of Eastern Star at Great Falls. The deceased possessed a cheerful disposition and always looked on the bright side of life. She maintained a cheerful and courageous spirit until the last in her letters to her sisters after entering the hospital. She was a loyal friend and was highly respected by all who formed her acquaintance. She is survived by two sisters, Miss Anna Mattson of Hawarden and Miss Hilma Mattson of Shreveport, La.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the sisters in their sudeden bereavement in the untimely death of their beloved sister.
