Mrs. Gustof Mattson passed away at 7:30 Sunday evening at her home on Gladstone hill following a long illness. Funeral services were held at the home at 1:30 this afternoon, conducted in Swedish by Rev. Lindblom of Big Springs and in English by Rev. C. W. Heady, pastor of the Baptist church of this city. Interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery.

Christena Johnson was born at Frisburg, Sweden, Nov. 9, 1848, and died Feb. 6, 1921, at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 27 days. She came to America in the fall of 1872 and on Dec. 5th of that year was united in marriage with Gustof Mattson. They were among the early settlers of the Big Springs community and resided there until 1913 when they left the farm and built a home in Hawarden. Mr. Mattson passed away on April 15, 1915. Five children were born to them, two of whom, Agnes and Edward, have passed away, and three are living, Anna of Hawarden, Hilma of Shreveport, La., and Nettie of Great Falls, Mont.

The deceased had been a member of the Baptist church for years, having been baptised June 7, 1874, at Big Springs, by Rev. Peter A. Ring. She was prominent in church activities and for many years was president of the Ladies' Aid Society at Big Springs. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the saddened relatives in their great bereavement.
