Obituary: HAWARDEN, IOWA- Myva Darlene Larson, 82, of Hawarden, Iowa died suddenly on Sunday, September 25, 2011. Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden, Iowa. Funeral service will be Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden, Iowa, with Rev. Todd Bunge officiating.

Myva Darlene Larson, the daughter of Nickolas and Minnie (Claussen) Velgersdyk, was born September 5, 1929 near Alvord, Iowa. She was raised in Hawarden, Iowa and during her high school years worked at Tilgners 5 & 10 store. She attained a Masters Degree in reading-elementary education from USD. She taught 3 years in a country school north of Hawarden. On June 17, 1950 Myva married Gilmore Larson at her parent’s home in Hawarden. They lived on a farm south of Alcester, SD. In 1955 they moved to Hawarden where she began teaching at the West Sioux Elementary School. She taught a total of 43 years.
Myva enjoyed bowling and was active on a bowling league. Every Saturday Myva met with "the gang" at Central Café.
Survivors are her husband, Gilmore of Hawarden, one son, Greg (Leah) Larson of Fort Worth, Texas; 2 grandchildren, Byron and Celeste of Fort Worth, Texas; 2 sisters, Donna Obbink of Sioux Center and Gladys Edmunds of Hawarden.
Myva was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Clarence and Eldon; and one sister, Marge Abbott.
The family has asked that memorials be directed to the West Sioux Education Foundation.
