Elizabeth Van Der Weide, 84, of Inwood, died surrounded by her family, Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Canton-Inwood Hospital. Funeral Service will be 10 am Wednesday at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley. Burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Sioux Center. Visitation with family will be 6:30-8 pm Tuesday at Porter Funeral Home.
Elizabeth was born October 18, 1926 near Alvord, IA, daughter of Anthony and Sophia (Rozeboom) Roskam. She married John Van Der Weide on September 22, 1947 at Chicago, IL. They moved to Sioux Center where she helped dispatch for John's trucking business. John died on April 30 1984. Elizabeth was a seamstress at Van Donkelaar Fabrics, drove Sioux Center's taxi, and then was a housekeeper at the Sioux Center Hospital. She later was a housekeeper at the New Homestead. Elizabeth moved to Fellowship Village at Inwood in 2001.
Survivors include her daughters, Pat (Delbert) Smidt of Stafford, VA, Sharon Van Der Weide and her friend Paul Friar of Rockford, MI, Deb (Brian) Wallenburg of Inwood, IA, Ruth (Mike) Post of Rock Valley; brothers, Tony (Bea) Roskam of Des Moines, IA, Gerrit (Emma) Roskam of Sioux Center, IA, Leonard (Harriet) Roskam of Hawarden, IA; sisters, Henrietta Van Hill of Alvord, IA, Hilda (Jake) Van Voorst of Lester, IA, Sophia (John) Zomer of Sioux Center, IA; 12 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; daughter, Joan Statema; sisters, Gertrude Kuiper and Gertie Dumond; brothers, Dick and Cornelius Roskam; granddaughter, Tricia Teunissen; great-granddaughter, Jordan Smidt.
