Le Mars, Iowa - Fran Bergin, 59, of Le Mars passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Pastor Mike Molenaar will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 12, 2011 at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present from 5-8 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Francene Kay Mantel was born on May 9, 1952 in Sioux Center, Iowa, one of ten children born to John and Gladys (Schutt) Mantel. She attended school in Doon, Iowa. Following her education, Fran took a position at Otis Radio in Hawarden. She later worked at Aalfs Manufacturing in Spencer and Le Mars, K-Products in Orange City, Behind the 8 Ball and Wal-Mart both in Le Mars.
On August 15, 1987 Fran and Paul Bergin were united in marriage at Foster Park in Le Mars. Fran had a very caring personality and was concerned for others before herself. Her caring nature carried through with her love of animals, especially her dogs Sasha, Ivy and Taz. In her spare time she liked to fish and crochet. Fran was very artistic. She painted and drew numerous subjects along with creating many ceramic works. Her artwork can be found on motorcycles throughout the state.
Fran will be dearly missed by her husband, Paul, and their three dogs Sasha, Ivy and Taz of Le Mars, IA; sisters and brothers, Joanne (Glen) Greeley of Coon Rapids, MN, Cindy (Roger) Hofstra of Sheldon, IA, John (Marge) Mantel of Doon, IA, Marge (Jim) Hoogendoorn of Doon, IA, Marvin Mantel of Doon, IA, Glen (Henrietta) Mantel of Doon, IA, Bob (Marcia) Mantel of Doon, IA and Sandie (Alan) Thielvoldt of Rock Valley, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Jacob; and her mother and father-in-law Carol and Edward "Red" Bergin.
