1922-2002
Helen Amelia Mieras, of Pensacola, died Saturday August 10, 2002, at a local hospital.
Helen was the eldest daughter of Charles Fredrick Mieras and Florence Ellen Steele Mieras. She was born February 19, 1922 at Maurice, Iowa and attended the Maurice Public Schools, graduating in 1939. She later graduated from Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Saint Louis Missouri, in 1943 and became licensed as a registered nurse. Following graduation, Helen entered the US Navy and rose to the rank of Lieutenant. During WWU, she was sent overseas to serve at the base in Oran, Africa. Helen was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. While in naval service; she served in Alaska, Pensacola and other parts of the US, later becoming a Navy Nurse Anesthetist by attending the University Hospital School of Anesthesia as Case Westem Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio. .Helen then practiced as a registered nurse anesthetist in Pensacola hospitals. From 1983 to 1988, she served as Director, of the Baptist Hospital Anesthesia Department In a d dition to her degrees a s Registered Nurse (RN), Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNAL Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) and Certified Respiratory Therapist, Helen received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Healthcare and Education. Helen retired in1988.
Mrs. Mieras was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marcia Mieras Mahoney; two brothers, Howard Charles Mieras, Sioux City, Iowa and J a son Everett Mieras, S a n Bernardino, CA.
Her survivors include, three sisters; Audrey Lynberg, West Covina, CA, Nellie Derby, . Florissant, MO, and Rebecca Sirois, San Diego, CA; sixteen nieces and nephews and a long time good- friend Frieda Markert
A grave-side service will be held 1:15pm Thursday August 15, 2002 at Barrancas National Cemetery, with military honors. Following burial services, a memorial service will be held at 3:00pm Thursday, at Grace Lutheran Church, with Rev. Robert Richter officiating.
Harper - Morris Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
