January 10, 1914 - August 7, 2011
Tena Gerritsen passed away peacefully on August 7, 2011. Tena was born January 10, 1914 in Rock Valley, IA to James and Henrietta Driesen. She left Iowa in 1936 and moved to Artesia, California. In March of 1937, she married Bill Gerritsen and worked as a homemaker while raising their three children (Alvin, Billy and Thelma). In 1962 they moved to Chino and after her husband Bill passed away in 1973 she started cleaning house for others till she was 82 years old. In 1982 she moved to Inland Christian Home and spent an enjoyable 20 years in a cottage, where she had many memories socializing with friends, playing cards, cleaning for others, traveling and enjoying visits from her many grandchildren.
She was the last surviving member of her family. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill Gerritsen (1973), sisters (Fannie, Henrietta, Jennie, Rolena and Annie), brothers (Hank, John, and Ed), and also her son-in-law, George Slegers (1994). She is survived by her children, Alvin of Chino, Ca; Bill (Sandy) of Twin Falls, ID; and Thelma Ankenman(Ed) of Nampa, ID; 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Harriet Driesen of Sioux Center, Iowa. Tena was a member of the United Reformed Church.
Visitation will be at Draper Mortuary on Sunday, August 14 from 1-4 p.m. Burial will be Monday, August 15 at 9:30 a.m. at Rose Hills Cemetery in Whittier, CA; memorial service will be at 11 a.m. at Draper Mortuary
