Dan Kooiker, 55, of Middleburg died Friday, August 13, at Sioux Center Community Hospital in
Sioux Center.
Memorial services were Tuesday at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center with the Rev. Stephen Breen officiating. Burial was prior to the service Tuesday in Middleburg Cemetery. There was a family prayer service Tuesday at Free Grace Reformed Church in Middleburg.
Kooiker was born August 20, 1948, in Hull, and was raised on the farm near Middleburg. He attended Sioux Center Christian Elementary School and graduated from Sioux Center Community High School with the Class of 1966. He attended Iowa State University and was enrolled in the farm management program, He served in the Air National Guard until he was given a hardship discharge due to his father's death in 1968. He assumed management duties of the family farm. He married Beth Vermeer of Sioux Center on August 18, 1978. He enjoyed spending time with his family and working with his brothers, sons and nephews on the farm.
Grateful for sharing his life are his wife and five children: Brett, 23, Brian, 21, Sharla, 17, Braden, 15, and Becca, 8. He is also survived by his mother Joan Kooiker of Middleburg;brothers, Harlyn (Frieda) Kooiker of Kanaranzi, Minnesota, Bill (Brenda) Kooiker of Middleburg, Dave (Ruth) Kooiker of Lake Wilson, Minnesota, Paul (Sue) Kooiker of Middleburg and Rich (Minerva) Kooiker of Middleburg; sisters, DeeAnn (Bob) Cleveringa
of Orange City, Paula (Daryl) Meendering of Middleburg, Barb (Wrede) Vogel of Luverne, Minnesota, and Ruth (Dan) Bentaas of Sioux Falls; mother-in-law, Charlotte Vermeer
of Sioux Center; brother-inlaw, Lee (Karla) Vermeer of Omaha, Nebraska; sisters-in-law, Kathy
(John) Koerselman of Sioux Center, Cindy (Les) Cleveringa of Alton, Peggy (Steve) Mouw of Sioux Center and Emily (Corey) Kleinhesselink of Sioux Center; and 59 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, William H. Kooiker; his father-in-law, Andrew Vermeer; a sister-in-law, Peggy (Post) Kooiker;
and three nephews.
