Lewis Mieras dies 3-78
Lewis E. Mieras, 70, Apt. 1, 2901 Ridge Ave., a member of the board of directors of the Sioux City Gospel Mission, died Sunday morning at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.
He was born Dec. 1, 1907, at Maurice, Iowa, and farmed in that area for several years. He and his
brother owned and operated the Million Dollar Service Station at Maurice until it closed. In 1936 Mr. Mieras moved to Sioux City and he and his family owned and operated apartment houses here. Mr. Mieras was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as an interpreter in Germany. He was a member and elder of the Third Presbyterian Church and a member of the Gideon Society and Monahan Post 64, American Legion. He married Lillie E. Hamel on July 17, 1946, in
Sioux City.
Survivors include the widow; two sons, Larry J. of Orchard, Neb., and Gregory A. of Sioux City; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Carol) Butler of Sioux City; a brother, Edward of Sioux City; five sisters, Mrs. Dena Taylor of Akron, Iowa, Mrs. Gertrude Sluiter of Grand Rapids, Mich., Mrs. Herman (Ada) Dykstra of Hospers, Iowa, and Mrs. Ruth Visser and Mrs. Paul (Virginia) Robertson, both of Hawarden, Iowa, and four grandchildren.
The W. Harry Christy Funeral Home in Morningside has charge of arrangements.
