Thursday, May 25, 2006 Marvin Duane Kots was born August 27, 1927 in Maurice, Iowa to Henry and Adrianna (Schuller) Kots. Marvin was baptized and confirmed at First Reformed Church in Maurice, Iowa. He attended Maurice Community School. Marvin was united in marriage to Dorothy Hand on January 14, 1951 in Hawarden, Iowa.
Marvin drove truck for Phil Groetken in Le Mars and then went to work at Supersweet Feeds for 27 years where he was the maintenance man.
Marvin was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars, the American Legion of Le Mars and also a member of the Woodbury Woodies Camping Club of Sioux City. Marvin enjoyed camping and being outdoors and spending time with family. He also enjoyed fixing and building things. Marvin was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include a son, Steve Kots and wife Kim of Corpus Christi, TX; two daughters, Barb Hames and husband Orville Jr., Shelly Schlesser and husband Mark all of Le Mars, a special friend, Milly Holdgrafer of Salix, IA; six grandchildren, Jeremy Kots, Michael (Melissa) Hames, Mindy Hames, Matt Schlesser, Craig Schlesser, and Aaron Schlesser; three sisters, Luverna Kramer of Le Mars, Lorna (Del) Koel of Winfred, SD, Marjorie (Bill) Swisher of Westfield, Iowa; a brother, Darwin (Marlene) Kots of Yoder, CO; one great grandchild, Nicholas Hames; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Bainbridge of Kingsley, IA, Ann Kots of Bellflower, CA, Leona Kots of Sioux Center, IA,
He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Adrianna Kots; his wife, Dorothy Kots in 1987; four brothers, Nelson, Orville, Lloyd and Virgil; a sister, Helen Chance; sister-in-law, Vivian Popken; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Elsie and Elza Hand
Visitations will be after 4:00 p.m. Monday, May 29, 2006 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer service. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.carlsenfuneralhome.com. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren: Jeremy Kots, Michael Hames, Mindy Hames, Matt Schlesser, Craig Schlesser, and Aaron Schlesser. Honorary casket bearers will be the Woodbury Woodies Camping Club.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars, Iowa with Reverend Larry Fett officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars with Military Honors provided by Wasmer American Legion Post #241 of Le Mars.
