Mrs. Bertha Klein, age 82, of Orange City, passed away on Friday, April 29, at the Sioux Center Community Nursing Facility.
There will be a funeral service on Monday, May 2, at 1:30pm, at the Redeemer United Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Ralph Pontier will officiate. Interment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation will be after 2:00pm on Sunday, with the family present from 2:00pm to 3:30pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Bertha was born on November 24, 1922, at Sioux Center, the daughter of John and Elsie (Wassink) Broek. She was raised at Sioux Center.
On August 7, 1946, she married Clarence A. Klein at Sioux Center. They farmed at Newkirk until 1977, when they moved into Orange City. Clarence passed away on August 9, 2002, in Sioux Center. Since May of 2002, Mrs. Klein has been a resident of the Nursing Facility.
She was currently a member of the Redeemer United Reformed Church. As a former member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City, she belonged to the Faith, Hope, and Love Society, and served as a Sunday school teacher.
Bertha was a faithful volunteer for various activities at the Orange City Christian School and her church. She was especially active in the school's Cash for Trash fundraising.
She enjoyed family get-togethers. Her children and grandchildren will remember her for the crocheted afghans and quilted baby blankets they received.
Survivors include her four children, Arlin Klein, and his wife, Karen, of Orange City; Wanda, and her husband, Michael Davis, of Dunlap, Illinois; Ruth Klein, of Sioux Center; and Ken Klein, and his wife, Kathy, of Sioux Center; seven grandchildren, Tami, and her husband, Chad Rauk; Tim Klein, and his wife, Melissa; Chad Hancock, and his wife, Kathy; Kevin Hancock, and his wife, Jennie; Ryan Hancock; Kris Klein; and Kimberly Klein; two great-grandchildren, Taryn Noelle Rauk and Aidan Sidney Hancock; two brothers and their wives, Cornie and Berdie Broek and John and Gert Broek, all of Sioux Center; two sisters and their husbands, Mathilda and John Van Beek, of Orange City; and Chris and Pete Schouten, of Sioux Center; two brothers-in-law, Jim Franken and Gaynor Te Grotenhuis, both of Sioux Center; and two sisters-in-law, Cornelia Broek, of Rock Valley; and Cora Broek, of Sioux Center.
She is also survived by her husband's family, a sister-in-law, Alice Langstraat, of Pleasantville; and two brothers-in-law, Jim Klein, of Jasper, Minnesota; and Adrian Klein, and his wife, Albertha, of Pipestone, Minnesota.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Dave Broek; Arend Broek; and Bill Broek, and his wife, Ina; three sisters, Nellie Franken; Elsie Te Grotenhuis; and Margaret, and her husband, Bill De Koter; a brother-in-law and his wife, Sam and Dorothy Klein; a brother-in-law, Fred Langstraat; and a sister-in-law, Geraldine Klein.
