HELENE KOTS
Helene Kots, 94, of Orange City, died Sunday, May 16,1999, at the Villa Care
Center in Fort Dodge.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the American Reformed Church in Orange City.
Burial followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City under the direction of the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Helene was born Jan. 24,. 1905, at Pella, the daughter of Gradus and Nellie (Vander Sluis) De Jong. She was raised in Iowa, the Dakotas and Minnesota. In 1930 she graduated from the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, ILL. On Aug. 7,1934, she married Wilbert Kots at Volga, S.D. They made their home in Morrison, ILL, Maurice, Orange City, Buena Park, California and Le Mars.
They then returned to Orange City where she was a custodian at the American Reformed Church. Mr. Kots died July 25, 1975 in Orange City. Later she lived at Orange Colony, the Pioneer Memorial Home and the Heritage
House, all in Orange City. In November of 1988, she transferred to the Villa Care Center. Mrs. Kots was a member of the American Reformed Church where she had been active in Reformed Church Women Ministries, the Sunday School and a prayer circle. She had also served as president of the Northwestern College Auxiliary in Orange City. In earlier years she had been a choir director at the First Reformed Church in Maurice.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Mary and Vern Plagge of Fort Dodge, and Nelda and Dwain Claypool of Port Orchard, Wash.; five grandchildren, Michael, Craig and Timothy Plagge, all of Fort Dodge; Edwina Danielle of Middleton, Idaho; and Linda Claypool of Washington; four great-grandchildren, Andrew and Cassondra Plagge and Justin and Travis Danielle; and a sister, Joyce De Groot of Chino, Calif.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Gerrit Claypool; three brothers, Ralph, Leonard and Cornie De Jong; and a sister, Anna Marie De Jong.
