Interment: Maplewood Cemetery, Luverne, Minnesota

Geraldine Smits was born on January 6, 1930 near Maurice, Iowa to Theodore and Anna (De Jong) Smits. She was raised and educated in the Maurice area and assisted on the family
farm. On December 8, 1950 Geraldine and James Klein were united in marriage at Maurice. The couple made their home in Springwater Township, Rock County, Minnesota where they farmed. They also owned and operated Klein Tractor Salvage in Pipestone, Minnesota from 1965 to 1993. On May 7, 1998 Geraldine moved to the Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne. She passed away there on Tuesday, September 22, 1998. Geraldine was a member of the American Reformed Church in Luverne, Minnesota. She was also a member of the Rock County Extension Club and assisted with 4-H. She enjoyed bowling, crocheting, gardening and rummage sales. Geraldine also enjoyed spending her winters in Texas and delivering Meals on Wheels in Luverne. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends.
Geraldine will be lovingly remembered by her husband James Klein of Sherman, SD; her children Stanley (Sandra) Klein of Waukee, IA, Glenda (Mark) Schneekloth of Luverne, MN. and Donna Klein of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren Amy and Annie Klein and Jared and Melissa Schneekloth of Luverne, MN; her father Theodore Smits Sr. of Maurice, IA; a brother Ted (Mary) Smits Jr. of White Bear Lake, MN; a sister Dorothy (Hank) Nibbelink of Sioux Center, Ia.
She was preceded in death by her mother Anna and brother John.
