Obituary: Rock Valley, Iowa: Rodney J. Visser (RJ), 52, of Waukee, Iowa, formerly of Rock Valley, died Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. Memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2012 at Trinity Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley, with Pastor Al Kuiper officiating.

Rodney James (RJ) Visser was born April 9, 1959 in Manhattan, Montana, the son of Cornie and Nellie (Alphenaar) Visser. In 1967, the Visser family moved to Rock Valley and stayed with Margaret Van Otterloo Teunissen. RJ went to Hope Haven School for the Deaf and attended the Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs, Iowa before going on to graduate from Gallaudet College in 1983. RJ was united in marriage with Jean O'brien on August 13, 1994. In 2007, RJ moved to Waukee, Iowa. He graduated from the Iowa Department of Blind orientation in 2008. RJ worked at Panera Bread in the Jordan Creek Mall in West Des Moines, Iowa. He was the best dishwasher they ever had. RJ was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He was very good with statistics and could name every stat from every Super Bowl game, dating back to the first Super Bowl on January 15, 1967. Friends were important to RJ and he would always make the best of every situation. He enjoyed his life in Iowa to the fullest.

RJ is Survived by his son Christopher Visser and daughter Colleen Visser of West Chester Pennsylvania; parents, Cornie and Nellie Visser of Rock Valley; brothers, Mike (Debbie) of Redfield, SD; Ivan (Sharon) of Brandon SD; Bruce of Seattle WA; and one sister, Debra (Paul) Kahn of Yakima WA; Best Friends, Kay Munneke, Brandon (Shannon) and Aaron DeWeerd, Bobby Karau all of Waukee Iowa and Travis (Larscina) DeWeerd of Doon Iowa; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews. RJ was preceded in death by his grandparents.
