Antony Slothouber, resident of the Pioneer Memorial home at Orange City for the past 10-1/2 years, died Thursday, Nov. 17, at the age of 91 years, 8 months and 1 day. He was one of the earliest residents in the home in which he was very much pleased.

Born March 16, 1847, at Vorden, The Netherlands, he married Miss Hendrika Bekman, and they came to America 54 years ago, settling on a farm near Alton. Eight children were born to them, as follows: Henry (died 18 years ago); Josie (Mrs. A. K. Bailey), Sioux Falls; Hattie (Mrs. W. Hoekstra), died 20 years ago; Tone, Fernsdale, Minn.; Dena (Mrs. C. Vander Heiden), Bellaire, Texas; Jennie (Mrs. F. Van Dieren), Hawarden, Ia.; John, soldier, died during the World War; Gerrit, Sheldon. All of the surviving children, 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild were present at the funeral services.

In 1889, Mr. and Mrs. Slothouber, with three children, sailed for America with three other families--Mr. and Mrs. J. Klein Bekman, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Bekman, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Korselman and Everett Karrsen. Mr. Slothouber made his home most of the time in the Alton vicinity. His wife died 22 years ago.

The day following Mr. Slothouber's death his sister-in-law, Mrs. Gerrit Slothouber, passed away at the J. Verhoef home at Boyden. Both funerals were held at the First Reformed church, Orange City, at the same hour on Monday afternoon, in charge of Rev. H. Colenbrander, assisted by Rev. Roetman of Newkirk. Interment for Mr. Slothouber was at Nassau township cemetery west of Alton.

Anthony Slothouber passed away at the Pioneer Home at Orange City, Thursday, November 17, at 4 o'clock p.m. at the age of 91 years and 8 months. He was born at Vorden, The Netherlands on March 16, 1844. He was married to Hendrika Beckman and the family came to America in 1884. They settled on a farm near Alton. His wife died several years ago and for the last ten years he has resided at the Pioneer Home.

He is survived by the following children: Mrs. H. Baley[Bailey], Sioux Falls; Anthony Slothouber, Ferndale, Minn.; Gerrit Slothouber of Sheldon; Mrs. F. Van Dieren, Hawarden; Mrs. Dena Vander Heide of Blair, Texas. He is also survived by several grand children and great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at 12:30 at the Home and at 1 o'clock at the First Reformed church with Rev. Mr. H. Colenbrander and Rev. Mr. Z. Roetman officiating. Interment was made in the Alton cemetery.
