Effie (Van Grootheest) VanDeStroet was born February 8,1908 in Ede of the Netherlands, the daughter of Gerrit and Teunisje (Stomphorst) Van Grootheest. Effie and her family came to the United States on August 12,1920. Effie was united in marriage to John VanDeStroet July 20,1926 at Canton, SD. Together, they farmed in the Fairview, SD area. Upon retirement in 1967, they moved to Canton. Her husband, John, died February 16, 1980. A resident of Valley Manor in Rock Valley, IA since October of 1992, she died Friday, March 30, 2001, having attained the age of 93 years.
Those grateful for having shared her life are: 3 sons and their wives- Henry and Toni of Rock Valley, IA,
Mace and Carol of Inwood, IA, and Gilbert and Sharon of Inwood, IA; 4 daughters and their husbands-
Tillie and Wilbur Zeilstra of Fairview, SD, Cora and Jacob Van Beek of Rock Valley, IA, Albertha
and Anton Kampen of Canton, SD, and Betty and Arnold Zomermaand of Inwood, IA; a daughter-in-law, Leona VanDeStroet of Jasper, MN; 36 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Van Grootheest; a brother-in-law, Gilbert VanDeStroet; and many nieces and nephews.
Her parents, her husband, John, a son, Gerrit, a granddaughter, Donna Van Beek, four brothers- Henry, Maas, John, and Gerrit, and four sisters- Gertruida Van Holland, Elizabeth Vlastuin, Hendrieka Niemeyer, and Rika VanDenTop, preceded her in death.
