Sterrenburg, Dena, Mrs. Walter J. Sr., 1867-1952

Mrs. Dena Sterrenburg, 84, daughter of Klaas and Neeltje Ver Steeg, was born Aug. 1867 at Pella, Iowa and passed away January 13, 1952, after an illness of two years. She was married January 1, 1887 to Walter J. Sterrenburg Sr. They moved to Edgerton, Minn. and lived there until the death of Mr. Sterrenburg in 1897. After that she, with her family, moved to this vicinity where she lived the rest of her life.

Surviving are two sons, Dick of Platte, S.D. and Charles of Orange City with whom she made her home. Those children preceding her in death were Jennie (Mrs. Wm. Kraai), Nellie and Walter Jr. Also left to mourn her passing are 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, a brother, D. Ver Steeg and a sister, Mrs. Kate De Cook, both of Orange City.

Mrs. Sterrenburg was a member of the Trinity Reformed church. Services were held at 1 p.m. at the home of Charles Sr. and at the Trinity Reformed church at 1:30, Rev. C. Boonestra officiating. Interment in the Orange City cemetery.

Mrs. Dena Sterrenburg passed away Sunday morning at 7:45 o'clock in the A. Aalbers convalescent home at Alton. Death was due to the effects of a stroke Wednesday and complications.

Mrs. Sterrenburg, nee Dena Ver Steeg, was born at Pella, Iowa on August 16, 1867. She was married to Walter Sterrenburg of Orange City in the year 1887. To them were born five children, two of whom survive: Dick Sterrenburg of Platte, S.D., and Charles Sterrenburg of Orange City, with whom she made her home for several years. Her husband and two daughters, Jennie and Nellie, passed on many years ago, A son, Walter died eleven years ago. There are 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Surviving also are one sister, Mrs. Kate De Cook, and one brother, Dingeman Ver Steeg, both of Orange City, and a nephew, John K. Ver Steeg of Orange City, who for many years made his home with the decedent.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the Chas. Sterrenburg home and at the Trinity Reformed church with Rev. C. Boonstra officiating. The Van Etten Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements and interment was made in the Orange City cemetery.
