John "Jack" Ver Steeg
March 9, 1907--Feb. 6, 1998

ORANGE CITY--John K. "Jack" Ver Steeg, 90, Orange City, died Friday, Feb. 6, at Orange City Municipal Hospital.

Services were Monday, Feb. 9, at Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. Don Den Hartog officiating. Burial was at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City, under the direction of Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

John "Jack" Ver Steeg, son of Dick and Johanna (Roghair) Ver Steeg, was born March 9, 1907, in rural Orange City. His mother died when he was 9 days old. He then lived with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Klaas Ver Steeg, until the age of 9. After that, he and his father made their home with Dena Sterrenburg. He attended Orange City Christian School and graduated from Orange City Public High School.

He married Jennie Van Veldhuizen on Oct. 17, 1929, in Sioux Center. They made their home in Orange City. He was employed by the city garage, which became Van's Super Service. Later, he worked at Punt-Cambier Motors, all in Orange City. In addition, he was a bus driver for the Orange City Public School for many years. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Reformed Church. He served as an umpire at numerous softball and baseball games in the area.

Survivors include his wife, Jen; a daughter, Joan Ver Steeg of Orange City; a son, Walter and Providencia Ver Steeg of Plymouth, MN; and two granddaughters.
