Wilbur J De Jong
Mr. Wibur J. De Jong, 74, died Monday morning at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.
Services were Wednesday, June 19 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Reformed Church. Rev. Cecil Martens and Rev. Henry Poppen officiated. Burial was in Sherman Township Cemetery, Maurice, under direction of the Van Gelder Funeral Home, Orange City.
He was born 1910, in rural Orange City, the son of Conrad J. And Anna (Mouw) De Jong. He married Jeanette Den Herder, July 14, 1937, at Maurice. The couple farmed near Maurice until 1974 when he retired and they moved to Orange City.
Mr. De Jong was a graduate of the Northwestern Academy and also Northwestern Junior College. He was a member of the First Reformed Church, Northwestern N Club, and served on the Maurice-Orange City School Board.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette; four sons, Rev. Carl of Hospers, Earl of Inwood, Daniel of Sioux City and Joel of Sgt. Bluff; two daughter, Linda of Aurora, Colo., and Mrs. Michael (Kaye) Lamb of Lakewood, Colo.; nine grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Esther Zeutenhorst of Sioux Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
