Ken De Prce, 88, of Maurice, IA, died Saturday, February 26, 2000 at the Rock Rapids Iowa Health Centre.
Kenneth John James De Pree was born February 26, 1912 in Sioux Center, IA at the home of his grandparents, Rev. & Mrs. James De Pree. He was the son of Neal & Cynthia (Boer) De Pree who lived in Sioux Center until 1918. From Then until 1940, Ken farmed with his parents, brother, & Grandfather (John Boer) on several farms between Ireton, Sioux Center, & Maurice. He attended several country schools in that area through the ninth grade. In 1940 the family moved into Maurice where Ken operated an auto repair business, sold Willy's cars, & hauled coal from the rail yards to Maurice homes. In 1945 he became a rural route carrier for the Post Office and also a bus driver for the Maurice Schools. On September 29, 1950 he married Gladys Den Herder of Maurice. He became Postmaster of Maurice in May 1952 & held the position for 31 years during which time he also trained many new Postmasters in a large area of Sioux
land. He retired in October of 1983 & entered the Rock Rapids Health Centre in August of 1999.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years; two sons Barry & Scott both of George, lA three granddaughters: Jessica, Natalie, & Rachel; & four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents & younger brother (Byron).
