Robert N. Ver Steeg, 72, former vice president and general manager of Kaiser Services and Kaiser Center in Oakland, Calif., died at his home in Penn Valley, Nevada County, Calif., on Sept. 4.

Mr. Ver Steeg was born in Orange City in 1916. He graduated from Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls, S.D. in 1936. He was office manager of Healey Construction Company, Sioux Falls, S.D. from 1935-45 and served in the Army from 1945-47.

Mr. Ver Steeg had a long career with Kaiser Industries, starting in 1947 with Kaiser Services and later with Kaiser Motors. He was vice president and general manager of Kaiser Services from 1970-75. He was vice president and general manager of Kaiser Center from 1975 until his retirement in 1978.

After retirement, Mr. Ver Steeg was active as an American Horse Show Association steward at west coast horse shows such as the Cow Palace, Pebble Beach and Santa Barbara. He was a past treasurer of the California State Horseman's Association (CSHA) and was the current treasurer of the CSHA Charitable Trust Scholarship Fund. Mr. Ver Steeg had lived for 28 years in Danville, Calif., and had recently moved to Lake Wildwood, Penn Valley, Calif.

He is survived by his wife Lorrine Dobak Ver Steeg of Penn Valley; a son, James Donald Ver Steeg of Porterville, Calif.; a daughter, Beverly Jean Ver Steeg of Dublin, Calif., and a brother, Carl Ver Steeg of Sioux Center.

A memorial service was held at the Ver Steeg home. Contributions may be made to the California State Horseman's Charitable Trust Scholarship Fund, 897 Third Street, Santa Rosa, Calif. 95404.
