Memorial services: November 20, 2000 at the First Reformed Church, Sioux Center, Iowa.
INTERMENT: Memory Gardens Cemetery, Sioux Center, Iowa,
Fred W. Cleveringa passed away Thursday in Sioux Center at the age of 97 years. He was born on May 22, 1903, in Sioux Center to William and Alice Cleveringa. On February 19,1931, in Orange City he married Mabel Van Marel. She preceded him in death on September 28, 1985. He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center where he sang in the choir and had served as a deacon. He loved to farm and after his retirement, worked for Van's Poultry Farm. He enjoyed people and loved to visit. He, along with others, often sang Dutch Psalms at the nursing homes in Hull and Sioux Center.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Kathleen and Gordon McKinstry of Orange City, Iowa; Carole Van Riessen of Sioux Center, Iowa; and a son-in-law, Lyle Williams of Knoxville, Iowa; six grandchildren and their spouses: Lee and Sabrina McKinstry of Orinda, California; Jay and Sherry McKinstry of Pella, Iowa; Loren and Julie De Wit of Orange City, Iowa; Verl and Jan Van Riessen of De Motte, Indiana; Mark and Susan Van Riessen of Urbandale, Iowa; and Andy
and Karen Long of Mountaintop, Pennsylvania; eleven great-grandchildren: Madison, Michael, & Mariah McKinstry; Casey and Corin McKinstry; A.J. Roetman; Chad and Candi Van Riessen; Jennifer and Michael Van Riessen; and Samatha Long; three step-greatgrandchildren: Tyler, Mitchel, and Josie De Wit; and one sister-in-law, Annie Van Marel of Steen, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel, one daughter, Aldeane Williams, a son-in-law, John Van Riessen, and the following brothers and sisters: Louis, William and Clarence Cleveringa, Wilhelmina Rozeboom, Ruth Wielenga, and Levina Sneller.
