Sioux Center News, May 4, 1993

Eleanor Van Steenwyk, 74, died at her home on Camano Island, Washington, Thursday, April 15, 1993.

Services were at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 17, at the Gilbertson Funeral Home in Stanwood, Washington. Burial was at Hawthorne Lawn Cemetery, Mount Vernon, Washington.

Eleanor Van Steenwyk graduated from Inwood High School as valedictorian of her class. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College. She taught school for several years in Iowa public schools. She married Ced Van Steenwyk in 1942, in Iowa. She lived most of her married life in Sioux Center. After retiring, she and her husband moved to Okoboji and in 1989 they moved to Camano Island. She enjoyed playing bridge and having lunch with her friends at the Camano Senior Center.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Dr. Ned Van Steenwyk and his wife Marta of Honduras, and Paul Van Steenwyk of Camano Island; two daughters, Ruth Cole-Geyer and her husband Bill of Bellingham and Jan Mather and her husband Don of Camano Island; one sister, Joy Meier of Postville; and seven grandchildren.

Memorials can be given to the Hospice program of Skagit County or to the Camano Senior Center.
