Sioux Center News, April 5, 1951

William Van Steenbergen, a brother of Mrs. John A. Van Peursem, died at Independence, Kansas, March 22 at 10 A.M. Funeral services were held in the Van Etten Funeral Home Monday with Rev. Straks officiating. Burial was in the local cemetery.

William Van Steenbergen, 81, was born at Pella, Iowa, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Van Steenbergen, on August 4, 1870. He grew up on a farm and then went to George, Iowa where he was engaged in the implement business for his uncle Ben Hoeven. From there he went to work for the De Jong Hardware Store at Hospers.

On May 6, 1914, he was united in marriage to Lizzie Long. They moved to Kansas and farmed until retiring to Independence.

Surviving are his wife and three sisters, Mrs. Martin Klein, and Mrs. Ed Bogaard of Pella, and Mrs. Van Peursem of Orange City. Preceding him in death was an infant son and sister, Mrs. John Vander Voert (?) of Pella.
