Mrs. Gertrude M. Hoogland, age 77, of Orange City, passed away Sunday, August 25,at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.
Gertrude Malinda was born July 28, 1914, at Munich, North Dakota, the daughter of the Rev. Frank W. and Amanda (Schloeman) Bruch. Her family moved from North Dakota to Fairbank, Iowa, and later to Ireton.
On September 15, 1932, she married Ted Hoogland at Ireton. They lived at Ireton until 1937, when they moved to Orange City.
Mrs. Hoogland was a telephone operator for several years and also worked in various stores. From 1969 to 1977, she assisted her husband in the operation of the Sioux County Sheriff's Office.
She was a member of the American Reformed Church in Orange City and Reformed Church Women.
Survivors include her husband; son, Rodney,of LaPine, Oregon: five grandchildren, Scott, David. Charrisse, Craig, and Ann: a greatgrandson: and seven brothers and sisters, Hertha Bruefa. of Palatine. IL: Arlin Bruch, of Bellevue, NE: Harold Bruch, of Des Moines; Herbert Bruch, of Alexandria, VA; Dorothea Lehman, of Covina, CA; Doris Loos, of Park Ridge. IL: and Marilyn Berg, of Rockford, IL. She was preceded in death by her son, N. James, in April of this year, and four brothers. Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 28, at the American Reformed Church in Orange City, with the Rev. Marlin Vander Wilt officiating. Interment followed at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton, under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City.
